Drawing and painting is first of all an inner process, where one goes deep within oneself, one's sensations and feelings. I capture images, an atmosphere, a situation, characters that touch me and I try to put the trace on paper, to give a restitution or rather, my interpretation, my vision. Painting gives me the opportunity to open my eyes, in particular to beauty, and to have long face-to-face encounters with nature, to immerse myself in it. It's a challenge, but also a form of meditation where I stay focused on my subject and my colors, especially when it comes to watercolors in water. My works are born from reality (landscape, situations…), or from a more imaginative inspiration. I started with drawing and Indian ink. A watercolor exhibition in water dazzled me and it was then that I really started to "see in color". Watercolor is my main medium.

FRANCE

These are also favorites in the face of urban, rural or maritime landscapes. The journey is the time of discovery, contemplation, transcription in drawing or watercolor. I sketch a drawing on the spot and note the shadows and the colors. When the weather is right, I look for a few colors on the spot. Most often, it's back home that I complete the watercolor drawing on a few photos. For large formats, most are compositions from memory where I seek above all to transcribe an atmosphere.

SENEGAL

My first trip to Senegal dates back to 1975. I went there as part of my studies, to carry out historical investigations. It was a month of January and I had left Paris in gray and rainy weather. My first memories are linked to this impression of luminosity and colors in the streets. The fabrics of the clothes, whether feminine or masculine, had nothing in common with what I saw in France. Later, I made long stays in Middle Casamance where the lateritic colors and the vegetation brought me closer to an imaginary Vietnam.

TUNISIE

This is a series of watercolors made between 2010 and 2013 during stays in Tunisia or afterwards. I have in mind the trip of Paul Klee and his friend August Macke to this country, and in particular to Kairouan. Klee had the opportunity to specify that before his trip, he hesitated between literature and painting and that it was the light of Kairouan that decided him to devote himself to the latter.
