These are also favorites in the face of urban, rural or maritime landscapes. The journey is the time of discovery, contemplation, transcription in drawing or watercolor. I sketch a drawing on the spot and note the shadows and the colors. When the weather is right, I look for a few colors on the spot. Most often, it's back home that I complete the watercolor drawing on a few photos. For large formats, most are compositions from memory where I seek above all to transcribe an atmosphere.

My first trip to Senegal dates back to 1975. I went there as part of my studies, to carry out historical investigations. It was a month of January and I had left Paris in gray and rainy weather. My first memories are linked to this impression of luminosity and colors in the streets. The fabrics of the clothes, whether feminine or masculine, had nothing in common with what I saw in France. Later, I made long stays in Middle Casamance where the lateritic colors and the vegetation brought me closer to an imaginary Vietnam.
