About the artists and their work

How do you choose the artworks available for sale?

Our emerging artists have the possibility to choose the artworks they want to put on sale. Nevertheless, we do moderate the content and it is possible that we may remove a work if its authenticity is questioned.

Who can sell their work on balthasart?

Balthasart is for up-and-coming artists, based in a European Union country, producing unique and original works exclusively, whose size does not exceed 110x110cm and whose selling price does not exceed 1000€. Are you an artist? Don't hesitate to apply here.

Are the artworks available as prints?

All the artworks presented on balthasart are original works. The multiples are limited to editions of 50 copies, or less, according to the artist's will, and cannot be edited on different supports.

What is an edition?

An edition is when there are several copies of a work, such as in photography. An edition is the specific number of copies that has been created by the artist before the first sale, and this number will not change. For photographs, an established artist generally has an edition size of about 10 while a young photographer may have a larger edition size. In general, the smaller the edition size, the higher the price.

Is a certificate of authenticity provided?

All artworks for sale on balthasart come with a certificate of authenticity that is signed by the artist. Furthermore, all editions are numbered and signed by the artist.

The work I wanted is no longer available - can I commission a similar work?

A number of our artists accept commissions so please get in touch if the work you love is no longer available!

Are all the works on balthasart available for purchase?

Not always, as sometimes they have already been sold! If the work has been sold, this is indicated on the artwork page. If you are unable to find another work that you love, do not hesitate to get in touch as we can suggest other works by our artists who are not online yet. Some of our artists also accept commissions!

How do I choose an artwork for myself?

On our website there are categories that will help you find the perfect match! Click on "Explore our catalogue" and you can search for an artwork depending on the theme, the color, the mood, the medium, the price or the size! Furthermore, after clicking on a category, filters will assist you in finding the artwork you love and that fits perfectly your style. How can I choose an artwork as a gift?

Es una gran idea regalar arte. Sin embargo, puede ser complicado elegir una obra de arte para otra persona, incluso si la conoces bien. Hay dos opciones que te ayudarán a hacer un regalo único: piensa en la persona a la que quieres regalar arte y piensa en lo que le gusta y en lo que encajaría en su casa. How do I find out if you have artworks by the artist I'm looking for?

If you have an artist name in mind, you can search for them on our artists page.
If there are no results, leave us your details. We take all searches on our site into account and we will contact artists whose works interest our users. If the artist joins balthasart, we will let you know straight away.

What does the heart next to artworks do?

This symbol allows you to choose the artworks you love while you're on the site, so you can find them all on one single page. To see this, click on the heart on the main menu. To make sure your favourites are saved and so that you can see them on another device, we recommend creating an account.

How can I check the size of the artwork?

The dimensions of the work are specified on the artwork page. Any further questions? Please get in touch - we're here to help and we can send you images to give you a better idea of the dimensions of the work.

Is the image on the site an accurate representation of the artwork?

The image is an accurate depiction of the artwork, but it has no contract value. We can send you additional images on request.
If the artwork you ordered is not what you expected, we are incredibly sorry. You have 14 days to return the work after its delivery.
Feel free to take a look at our client feedback. They often tell us that the work is even more beautiful in real life!

How do I buy art on balthasart?

To buy an artwork, you have to click on the button "Buy this artwork" which is found on all artwork pages. You will then be redirected to your Cart. Once you have clicked 'Proceed', we will ask for your details to organize delivery, and then ask you to choose your method of payment (card, Paypal, or call us for bank transfers). Once the payment has been processed, you will receive confirmation from our payment processor, Stripe.

What are the accepted methods of payment?

All credit and debit cards (Mastercard, Visa, American Express etc.), Paypal and bank transfer.

What happens once the payment has been processed?

Once the payment has been processed, the artwork is reserved for you! We will send you an email right away to confirm its availability and delivery times (delivery takes approximately 7 days). Together we will arrange the best day for delivery to the address you provided.

When will my credit card be charged?

When the artwork is shipped. When you pay online on balthasart, we receive a confirmation from your banking institution that the respective amount is available on your account. Generally, banks block this sum on your account until the actual time of payment. However, this procedure may vary. Please contact your bank to find out more!

Can I cancel my order?

Of course. Before the work has been shipped, you can cancel your order by email. Once it's been shipped, the cancellation period begins 14 days after delivery. If the work has been shipped, we will only refund you once the work has been returned to the artist in its original condition.

Shipping & Delivery

How are the artworks packaged?

The works are packaged by the artist and follow a standardised packaging process. We confirm the packaging with the artist before shipping and take care to make sure the work is properly protected.

How long does delivery take?

After the payment has been processed, delivery takes 7 days on average, which leaves time for packaging and shipping. This may vary depending on the artist's availability and the distance between the artist's studio and your home. Whatever happens, we will keep you updated.

Who takes care of the delivery?

Depending on the destination and the size of the work, we use delivery companies such as DHL or UPS, or specialist art delivery companies.

Which countries do you deliver to?

We deliver in all the countries being part of the European Union.

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping costs are included in the price, regardless of destination.

Is the delivery of the artwork insured?

Absolutely! balthasart organises and insures the transport of the artwork. You have nothing to worry about and there are no hidden costs.

If I buy several artworks, will they be delivered at the same time?

Each work is shipped by the artist. So if the two works are by the same artist, they may be delivered at the same time (under normal circumstances).
If they are by different artists, the delivery dates will be different.

Can I get artworks delivered to a different country or to a different person?

We will deliver to the address you gave on your order. If it's a surprise or a present, let us know!

Returns

Our goal is of course to make sure that you have the best experience with balthasart, but we never know what might happen. Here are a few possibilities:

I've changed my mind or I don't like the artwork anymore... What can I do?

That's a shame, but it happens! You have 14 days after delivery of the work to let us know. We will organise and cover the costs of the return. You will be refunded once the artwork has been returned to the artist. In the case of returns after cancellation, you are responsible for packaging the work.

The artwork was damaged when it arrived. What should I do?

Contact us as soon as you notice the damage. Take photos to show us the current state of the work and we will make a decision together.
According to the extent of the damage, we can either repair the work, or you can return it and you will be refunded. balthasart covers the costs of repair and transport in case of damage during delivery.

How does the refund work?

You will be refunded after the work has been returned to the artist.
