« I am fascinated by the beauty and mysteries of life around me, in whatever form they are revealed to me »
It is my primary mission as an artist is to contribute to this beauty, to create works that encourage gratitude and joy for all that is, for the mind to go beyond sense.

Arduinna, a Gaulish goddess of the forest and hunting, was revered by the Celts of the Belgian Ardennes and her many followers in Luxemburg and parts of France and Germany. She is associated with the Roman goddess Diana, the Greek Artemis or seen as an equivalent to the Irish Flidais. Though Arduinna's stories have not survived to the present day, her reputation as a courageous and benevolent guardian of flora and fauna is still an inspiration. She is commonly depicted in a belted tunic, riding a wild boar sidesaddle with a bow-and-arrow, knife or spear. Many ancient cultures associate the boar with strength and courage; it is not surprising that it was the beast she rode whenever hunting and patrolling her domain. She collected penalties from hunters who killed animals on her territory, and as can be expected for a Celtic goddess, animal sacrifices were customary on her feast day. This series is about capturing her untamed and fierce spirit - in speedy action or just strolling.

This ink-on-paper series was created for the book launch of ‘Legitimation as Political Practice: Crafting Everyday Authority in Tanzania’ by Dr Kathy Dodworth, published by Cambridge University Press. It revisits motifs and elements of the book cover, which was the result of a long dialogical process between author and artist. These exchanges brought to the fore a reflection on practices of self-legitimation as an artist or researcher during negotiations with each other, various audiences and, most importantly, with the broader ethics and politics of artistic representation. All proceeds will go to a community-based organization in coastal Tanzania, where the research for the book took place.

A cherry plum tree in flower, based on photographs taken in March 2020. Unfazed by the human drama unfurling, spring ploughed on ahead, filling the air with warm earthen smells, and all around us budded into life. Gently billowing in a breeze as islands of clouds drift peacefully across the backdrop of an oversaturated turquoise sky. The passage of time is evoked when looking at the series as a whole, the relative stillness of the vibrantly coloured flowers set against a tranquil sky.
