Every artist that I have ever admired has this certain thing about them. They all have that one thing which the viewer can identify with, straight away. Yet, I think I am incapable of finding a signature style. I cannot stick to one thing for too long. This was something that caused me to stop at various points throughout my career until I realized that what makes my art so diverse is that I don’t have and simply cannot have a ‘signature’ style. My process, as fluid and cacophonous as it is, shows my deep insecurities through my art I think. Whenever I do something distinctive and people like it, I must move on. I feel like everything that I am doing is an expression of my own longing and consequent rejection of wanting to fit in. The diverse nature of my work is the representation of that conflict. It is, I hope, what makes me me and my work idiosyncratic. It is a constant work in progress and nothing is defined because I am not defined, as much as I want to be.

The people in my life

The works in this series are among the most personal and deeply psychological in the artist's cannon. They are scenes and people from his life, as well as himself. The deep, earthy hues are juxtaposed with vibrant stripes of colour (evident in a lot of his works) and the paint, heavily applied, gives each scene a visceral quality. The condensation running down the walls, the grime on the floor, the dirt, the bags under the eyes, the deep casting shadows, all part of what appears to be a simple image but through months and months of work, layer after layer of paint, resonate deeper. The characters are in the midst of their most turbulent or rewarding moments of their lives. It is shown on their flesh, which tell us the story of their life. The artist took (and continues to take inspiration) from the profoundly personal photographs of Nan Goldin, the shapes and twisted forms of the dancers from productions by Pina Bausch. These are his stories and those of people who touched his life.

Beasts

This series exhibits the phantasmagoric impulses of the artist's expression. The beasts behind the human veil which hides our obsessions with sex, violence, crime, hunger and the will to survive a world spinning at a dizzying pace. The nature of what the artist calls 'The Beast' is present here, beautiful succubus' intertwine with hideous monsters, the violence of a crime or an inexplicable scene is juxtaposed with the calm of planets and stars or straight, symmetrical lines of vibrant colour. The œuvres exude playfulness and danger, giving the images an inexhaustible diversity, allowing the viewer to discover new elements each time.

The Satyrs

These paintings and the characters within them are my only works which I allow to feature a social commentary. On the most part, I think 'social' paintings to be quite tedious, yet, like Guston or even the more grotesque Goya comics before represent a playful mockery of the absurd nature of humanity's unbreakable desire to repeat its tragedies. The comedic nature of these paintings stems from their humour. They are aware of their hideousness, though that was no effort of mine, they simply came out that way and I painted with a little filters as possible.
